Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better guide and driver. The driver Omar was safe, courteous, and responsive, eg slowing down when I wanted to take a picture. The guide, Mohamed was very competent. Besides the tour, this is perhaps best demonstrated when my return flight was cancelled and then reinstated. First, he helped me get a hotel at late notice, then when the flight was changed again, he immediately called me and helped me get to the airport and get through security efficiently. This competence, local knowledge and thoughtfulness would simply not be available to the independent traveller or someone without Mohamed’s experience.

The peaceful landscape, the simplicity of the surroundings, and the beauty of God’s creation were absolutely breathtaking. Mohamed arranged for us to enjoy traditional Mauritanian tea while sitting on a beautiful carpet among the dunes, overlooking the bird sanctuary. It was such a serene and special moment.

Later, we enjoyed an enormous, freshly caught fish that Mohamed had ordered for us, served with steamed rice. The meal was simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious—the perfect ending to a beautiful day.

Mohamed’s knowledge, kindness, and genuine hospitality made the entire experience even more meaningful. He gave me the opportunity to see another side of Mauritania and helped me fall in love with the beauty of the country and the warmth of its people. I highly recommend both Mohamed and this remarkable experience at Banc d’Arguin National Park.
