Mauritania Travel FAQ: Visa, Booking and Safety

Do I need a visa to visit Mauritania?

Most visitors require a visa. An e-visa may be obtained online before travel. The fee for a one-month visa is 55 euros or 60 US dollars. Please see our E-Visa information page for the current procedure.

When is the best time to travel?

The most comfortable period is October through March, when temperatures in the desert are lower. Travel is possible year-round, although summer temperatures are high.

Is Mauritania safe for tourists?

Our guides and drivers have extensive experience across the country, and we plan every itinerary according to current local conditions. We advise all guests to consult their government’s travel advisory before booking.

Are your tours private or in groups?

We operate private tours and small-group expeditions. Every itinerary can be adapted to your dates, interests and budget.

What is included in the tour price?

Our tours include a 4×4 vehicle, an experienced driver and guide, meals, accommodation, camping equipment and park fees. Items not included are international flights, visa fees, travel insurance and personal expenses. The detailed inclusions appear on each tour page.

How do I book a tour?

Contact us by WhatsApp at +222 27272759 or by email at contact@mauritanian-best-tours.com. We will prepare a tailored proposal, and a deposit of 20% of the tour price is required to secure your place on the tour.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment may be made in euros or US dollars. Full payment details are provided at the time of booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand plans can change. A 20% deposit secures your place. Cancellations made two months or more before the departure date are fully refundable. Cancellations made less than two months before departure can be used as a credit for a future tour. Should we need to cancel for safety reasons, you will receive a full refund. Full details will be shared with you upon booking.

What kind of accommodation can we expect?

Accommodation varies by itinerary and includes hotels, guesthouses and desert camps. Facilities in remote areas are simple but comfortable.

What should I bring?

We recommend lightweight, modest clothing, a scarf for sun and sand, sun protection, sturdy footwear and a warm layer for desert nights.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes medical coverage and evacuation.

Can you arrange airport transfers?

Yes. We provide transfers at Nouakchott airport on request.
